The good, the bad and the ugly of waking up at 5:30 AM

How it all started…

I’ve always been a morning person and an absolutely useless evening person. I’m not kidding It is extreme. To the point where the other day I fell asleep at 8:30 PM on a Friday. Who does that after the age of eight?!

Yet, despite reading it a few hundred times:

  • “Wake up an hour early.”
  • “High performers get up at 5 AM.”
  • “Start your day working on your biggest goal.”

I was not convinced. I woke up early enough as it was thank you very much.

Then the suggestion came from the last person I ever expected to want to get up at 5:30 AM: my boyfriend. The guy I dragged out of bed every morning at 7:45 AM with “You are going to be late, again”. The guy who I have shoved, threaten and stolen covers from to get him out of bed.

What was going on?

He wanted to code more but was struggling to find the time, “When I traveled from Zeeland, I woke up at 5:30 AM every day and had plenty of time on the train”. I wanted to support him, so when he then suddenly blurted out, completely sober, the idea “I think I should start getting up at 5:30 AM again.” I said let’s do it. I’ll join you. Maybe, I was scared that if I didn’t, he would move…
